The story behind our program

Originally started as Cimarron Independent Winter Guard, we began as an organization in 2013 and competed in the Gulfcoast Color Guard & Percussion Circuit (GCGPC).  Our first show was titled The Storm and the team competed in the Independent A Class.  At the 2013 GCGPC Championships, we earned the Independent A gold medal at circuit championships.  Our 2014 show was titled Clown and we competed in the Independent Open Class, which the team earned the circuit championship gold medal for Independent Open.  We In 2015, we left GCGPC and began competing in the Florida Federations of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) in the Independent A Class.  Our 2015 show title Home made finals at the Atlanta Regional and Southeast Power Regional in Orlando, FL.

In 2016, the team underwent a re-branding to reflect our status as a Florida State University student organization.  We did not compete in any circuit that season, but we put together a show and competed at a few events.  Our 2016 show was titled Sweet Dreams and we competed in the Walt Disney World Twirl Mania competition, in which we received first place.  In 2017, our team competed in FFCC and performed their show titled Anything Worth Holding On To and made semi-finals at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

Based out of Tallahassee, Florida, we are an independent winter guard comprised of mostly Florida State University students with the goal to build a competitive program and strengthen our love for the Sport of the Arts. Although we are called the Florida State Winter Guard, we do not limit ourselves to only Florida State students.  We welcome members from our community and surrounding areas.  In fact, we have members from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA that performed with us in 2016 through 2019.

The guard is under the direction of Cheryl and Sean Wimberley.
